Chords: Gotta Get Up by Harry Nilsson (From Russian Doll)
If you watched Russian Doll on Netflix and fell in love with the song that plays every time that time resets, this one's for you!
The song’s called Gotta Get Up and it’s by Harry Nilsson, offa the album Nilsson Schmilsson, which also featured absolute classics like Coconut and Jump Into The Fire. Seriously, go listen to Coconut and then try to not have it in your head for at least an hour. I dare you :D
For now, come get you the chords for Gotta Get Up. You’ve earned it.
I wrote a little while ago about Russian Doll, in a piece about mortality and the crushing march of time, and how I fully endorse what I perceive to be the message of the series as a whole. Go read it sometime, it’s good. (Plus, the girl I’m talking about in the piece liked it very much, and sent it around on Facebook, which is an achievement that stands above many other academic and career achievements in my life. Because these are the things that matter, not baubles.)
Anyways, here’s my stripped-down Imperfection Project version of the song, where I cut out the intro to get straight into the action…
Sure, the original is way better and has all these rad-ass horns and piano rolls that really make it…but the stripped-down uke take is nice to sing and makes you feel like an absolute boss because of that smiley G# to G as an accent throughout.
It’s super fun to play, and I’m really happy with how both the video and audio came out. Go me!
Here are the chords I’m playing:
I’m sure you’ll do a much better job than I did. Enjoy!
Love always,
Fay

P.S. You know I didn’t write this. Go buy Harry Nilsson’s stuff, it’s really underrated. (He didn’t just write Without You, y’know…)
