Advent Calendar December 19th: Bless Us All

The softer side. This song always makes me emotional, but then every song from this movie has that effect on me in some fashion. This one especially though.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is my very favourite Christmas movie; I think it’s pretty much perfect in every way. It has highs and lows, always makes me feel glad to be alive, and inspires me to create something wonderful. Like Muppets.

While this song isn’t my absolute favourite from the movie (that has a very LARGE spirit in it, HO HO HO!) this one doesn’t have any ridiculously hard chord changes in it, and I more or less made it through without my voice giving out.

The sound quality is all a bit underwater love (the way I feel it, slipping all over me) because of the placement of the mic, and some much-needed hiss reduction. I was singing and playing quietly because I’ve been in a great deal of pain today, and my migraine wasn’t quite gone when I recorded this. I think it still came out quite pretty though: different than the other videos, but pretty. And from the side I don’t look too bad, hey? The hope I bought in those little tubes must be doing something

Here’s the video!

(Plus, my moggy costar is back…I promise he does like me a lot, not just the fire’s warmth.)

Here are the chords for Bless Us All.pdf

I based this off the sheet music, the chords on the net, the record itself, and by ear. As always for ukulele, some of the chords listed either don’t exist, are really hard (which is no rock ‘n‘ roll fun) or just don’t sound that great on a uke. Some artistic license is used here…quite a bit of artistic license is used, actually.

One thing worth noting: to play the progression so it sounds nice, when you move from D to D7, you want to play the version where you remove a finger from the C string, not add one on the A string. That is, you really have to play the nice easy version of D7 for this song to work.

I got all emotional at the end, I’m sure you’ll do a better job - providing you can keep it together too. I know you can. Have fun playing!

Love always,

Fay
