I did warn you that there’d be a bunch of Billy Joel on here. What can I say? I really like the guy’s music.
New York State of Mind is one of those songs that has just the right whistful feel for a solo acoustic version on ukulele or guitar. Come get you some chords.
The chords for this arrangement are a) tricky, so you’ll have to look up fingerings you’re happy with, b) cross-checked from various sources (the net, the sheet music and the song itself) and c) are vastly simplified, because all that epic piano noodling isn’t something my fudgy fingers can manage.

I can honestly say that I’ve never, not once, managed to perform this song without making a mistake, and this week’s Imperfection Project video was no exception. It’s still pretty though, even with the super simple whistling solo, because there’s no way this girl can whistle that incredible sax…
