Chords: You Were There from Ico
This song was originally, as far as I figure, sung by a choirboy. He did a great job. Me? Well, I am not a teen chorister.
I sang it anyway.
You Were There is the main end credits theme from Ico, and it’s absolutely beautiful. It still gives me chills. Come get the guitar/ukulele chords!
I played Ico when it first came out, and it’s still one of my favourite games, all these years later. Maybe it happened at the right time, maybe it’s just the kind of atmospheric, poetic, beautiful yarns I’m all over like a hot rash. Maybe it doesn’t stand up today, but I don’t plan on finding out right now, because I can’t ever take back the bit of my heart that belongs within those lines of code.
You Were There plays over the end credits, as you’re crying your eyes out from sheer release. While I enjoy singing the song, I’m not a trained vocalist, and it’s sung in a much more choral style than I’d usually attempt. It sounds different in my head, and I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t sound quite as crap Out There as it sounded from the vocals reverberating around my skull.
In all, it came out pretty neat even though a) I cannot fingerpick, so I went with a strummed waltz version, and b) there’s some audio clipping – because I only spotted after I was done recording that I’d accidentally left the mic gain set too high. Learning moments, right?
Here’s the Imperfection Project video:
And here are the chords I’m playing:
I’m sure you’ll do a much better job than I did. Have fun!
Love always,

P.S. I didn’t write this. Michiru Oshima did. Go listen to the much better original below. That BASS! Then go listen to Castle In The Mist from the same soundtrack. It’s so hecking pretty.
