Original Song: Gift My Heart
Here we HO HO HO again! The holidays are upon us, and that means that I’ve written another festive song full of love and wonder. Come inside, shake off the cold, and sit down by the fire…
After a hard year full of sadness and loss, my hands and heart turned towards writing a song of gratitude and love for Christmas this year. It’s my way of dealing: to recalibrate around all the awful, to build something good from the ashes.
So, this is the song that spills out of you when all you have to give is love this Christmas. I wrote it this Autumn, and it kept getting in our heads, so my Kind-Eyed-Boy and I decided to put a (much more produced) instrumental version into our second indie game: an advent-calendar-themed spot the difference game with 24 doors to explore, and pictures of penguins, snowfolk, carollers and festive fun behind every door.
This video was recorded in one take: the first and only take that I captured, in fact! Given I haven’t recorded any videos for months, I didn’t want to get bogged down in being anything but fast ‘n’ loose about recording the version with lyrics. As such this demo is very much a part of the Imperfection Project cohort, with random cat bomps and my voice being not quite warmed up, but it’s perfectly imperfect in its own way.
I’m lucky to be in love with my very best friend, and - even though we’ve been together over 20 years (I knooooOOOOOOooooow!) - I fall in love with him and his beautiful mind more every single day. After surviving a bunch of life-threatening shit in my time, I’m lucky and grateful to still be here, and every Christmas is the best Christmas ever as long as we’re together.
I hope that you are safe, warm, and surrounded by love and laughter this Christmas. Even if your pockets are empty like ours, I wish you hearts that are full, because that’ll always be enough to get us through.
Love always,
FayMai
