Original Song: Bright Lines

Well, here we are again, my doves: another song of mine, another play around in my DAW, and another arrangement that’s closer to what I heard in my head when it was born. Come listen to a song I wrote about hope…

This one was penned many months ago now, and almost all in one sitting, though it came to pass that the bridge would elude me for some time. Try as I might I just couldn’t seem to find the right chords to fit the vocals I wanted. Then one night not long ago, I played its half-baked form once more, and the bridge chords noodled right out of my hands, like magic. And they were neither too lumpy, nor too runny, not too hard, nor too soft. They were just right.

The bridge is the stretch of the song I’m most proud of, with the rad bass boops, tremmy mandolin, sweeping strings and gentle harmony, it all came together really prettily once I had the vocals recorded a few times through. (And by some miracle managed to turn the overloud recordings down enough to make them usable. I wonder if one day, one beautiful day, I’ll not mess up my recording levels when I sing…? I doubt it.)

Anyway, here’s my Imperfection Project cover - definitely not one take, but still imperfection at its finest.

I’m proud of what I’ve learned and fashioned in this one. It’s lovely to write hope into the world sometimes, because I sometimes find it all too easy to write ballads of love and loss.

It’s nice to show the brighter side of my heart in a song.

I hope you enjoyed it - and if not, I hope you’re inspired to go forward and make something better. I know you can. You’ve got this.

Love always,

Fay
