Advent Calendar December 15th: Peace on Earth / Little Drummer Boy
I cloned myself! How else could I do this two parter?
I am immensely proud of this video. I know it's not perfect, and that's the lowest my register goes so it's not the nicest sound I can make, but the relationship between the two melodies is the most important thing - and it's there.
I’d like to think that David and Bing wouldn’t hate it. They probably would, but that’s okay. I grew and learned as I made it. And I was playing for me.
A comedy of errors
This video was hard won, too. Because literally everything went wrong with it today.
Every battery that could run out, did - moving my camera moved my frame so, retakes.
MicroSD cards filled at inopportune moments. Retakes.
Stuff got knocked over, so the framing’s kinda off.
There were guys angle grinding outside at one point. (I kid you not.)
The church bells went off for an age.
I did some much better takes and realised there was something showing in the video that I can’t have in there, so…retakes.
During editing there was a bug with the mask function, which meant I had to restart over and again.
The colour temperature of the two copies of me were different and took ages to (sort of) match.
Rendering took literally hours.
Uploading, my internet started dropping out.
But now, it’s done. And it makes me smile big. I’m so proud of it, because I learned so much.
I think it came out pretty good, too! What do you reckon?

Let’s talk about those chords
The accepted version of the chords you’ll find all over the net has:
a) The words not quite right - Bing doesn’t sing about oxes and lambs keeping time in the second verse. I know this because I watched the video back about a thousand times.
And b) an Am chord at the start of the last line of the bridge, but I changed it to Cm as I kept going off key with the Am. I’m fairly good at transposing naturally, so when it kept throwing me, I figured something fishy was going on. Sounds much better to me now, and doesn’t throw me off.
Find a friend, or clone yourself, and play the heck out of it! Enjoy.
