Chords: Promise Me by Beverley Craven
Advance apologies to everyone who was around in the early 90s in the UK, when this song was everywhere, for a very long time. It’s just such a gorgeous song, and sounds pretty nice when I sing it, so it had to be done sooner or later.
Come get you the chords for my acoustic ukulele cover of Promise Me.
I had such a massive crush on the lady who sang this when it came out, but some people are just preturnaturally beautiful y’know? Today, I still think she’s beautiful, but I feel sort of retroactively bad for her because the person she’s just had sexytimes with is smoking in bed…which was a Thing people did at the time, but now makes me shudder a little bit. How times change, hey?
Here’s the Imperfection Project video:
Teaching yourself things by trial and error is a slow process: the mic was a little bit too close this time, so there’s some veeeeery minor clipping on a big note in the chorus. For me, it’s not a dealbreaker because I’m kinda stoked about how everything else came out, but YMMV.
If you want to play along, here are the chords I’m playing, which includes a fill I put in for that ominous-sounding bit after the first verse. To match the record the song’s supposed to be capo on 1, but…naaah. Right?
Have fun playing! I’m sure you’ll do a much better job than I did.
Love always,
Fay

P.S. I didn’t write this, Beverley Craven did. Go buy the original.
