Chords: Unforgettable by Nat King Cole
I haven’t made a video since my Aunt died of cancer earlier this year. This song, which she loved, and played at her funeral, is my little tribute to her.
Sadly, I couldn’t attend the funeral due to lockdown, but my family kindly sent the order of service, and a transcript of the eulogy so that I could mark her passing in my own way. It’s strange, the permanence of death, isn’t it? A story that will always be written that way, now. Her smile is a bright spark in some of my youngest memories, and in crushingly few photos, but woven into the yarn of some orange knitted mittens that I cherish. Damn, that woman could really knit.
At first I was more broken by grief than I had any right to be, and didn’t want to make any videos, or anything really. Weeks passed. Then a month. I resolved that this would be the song I sang next for my Imperfection Project; my little tribute to her. But I couldn’t make it through it. Weeks went by, and the weight of making an indie game from scratch fell upon me in beautiful, all-encompassing waves of creation. Time ticked on, and I simply didn’t have it in me to sing this song yet. Until today.
So, here’s the Imperfection Project cover - a short version of this beautiful song. Mercifully short, so I had any chance to make it through it, even if I am a little overcome at the end...
And here are the chords, worked out by me and simplified to the best of my ability:
I hope you enjoy the chords, and that you’ll tell the people you love, that you love them today.
Sweet dreams, Auntie P.
Love always,
Fay
